Young Composers Concert 2019

Ian Wood is a second year Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Texas at Austin. His interest in music began when he decided to play trumpet at the age of twelve. During his time in middle school he achieved a part in Region 18 Symphonic Band as well as All City Band. At the beginning of high school, he decided to study piano where he discovered a whole new meaning to music. He quickly familiarized himself with the basics and became interested in music theory and composition. He began composing short piano preludes, string quartets, symphonies, and piano concerti. All of these compositions were influenced by great composers like Ravel, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Bartók, and Prokofiev, which in turn aided in the development of his musical style.
