🚨 NEW Golden Hornet core program! 🎬 Cinema Recomposed debuts at Fantastic Fest 2025: silent films, brand-new scores! 🎟️🎟️ The inaugural performance takes place Sunday, Sept 21st at 11:50 AM in Theater 9 at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.
➡️ Seven composers, aged 17-24, compose new scores for silent classics, with the mentorship of some of the industry's top professionals. This is Cinema Recomposed! Commissioned by Golden Hornet, in partnership with a team including Tim League (Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Metro Cinema), American Genre Film Archive (AGFA), and Max Fleischer Studios, the inaugural year's screening with live score by Invoke string quartet will premiere at Fantastic Fest 2025. The next generation of film composers is here!
We provide each composer with something that's often not accessible through traditional music programs: one-on-one access to composers working at the highest level. With help from Tim League and our Artistic Director Graham Reynolds, we have assembled a team of some of Hollywood's best film composers to mentor each young artist including Carter Burwell, Keegan DeWitt, Robert Rodriguez, Roger Neill, Chris Tyng, and more!
Golden Hornet is also partnering with fellow 501c3 non-profit, American Genre Film Archive (AGFA), to bring Cinema Recomposed to life. AGFA is the world’s largest archive dedicated to genre movies and filmmakers. They worked closely with the Max Fleischer estate to secure the rights to the restored cartoons that our composers are re-scoring. This year’s cartoons include Mechanical Monsters (1941), Somewhere in Dreamland (1936), Jumping Beans (1922), Koko’s Klock (1927), Koko’s Kink (1928), Popeye the Sailor - Little Swee' Pea (1936), and Betty Boop's Ker-Choo (1932).
