Developing the next generation of film composers.

Seven composers, aged 17-24, compose new scores for silent classics, with the mentorship of some of the industry's top professionals. This is Cinema Recomposed! Commissioned by Golden Hornet, in partnership with a team including Tim League (Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Metro Cinema), American Genre Film Archive (AGFA), and Max Fleischer Studios, the inaugural year's screening with live score will premiere at the 2025 Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. The next generation of film composers is here!

The Films

Golden Hornet is partnering with fellow 501c3 non-profit, American Genre Film Archive (AGFA), to bring Cinema Recomposed to life. AGFA is the world’s largest archive dedicated to genre movies and filmmakers. They worked closely with the Max Fleischer estate to secure the rights to the restored cartoons that our composers are re-scoring.

The Premiere

The first season of Cinema Recomposed will premiere with a live string quartet in September 2025 at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. Stay tuned for more information on the premiere.

The Mentors

We provide each composer with something that's often not accessible through traditional music programs: one-on-one access to top industry professionals. In partnership with Alamo Drafthouse and Metro Cinema founder Tim League, we have assembled a team of some of Hollywood's best film composers to mentor each young artist.

The Creation of this Program

For sixteen years Graham Reynolds has led Golden Hornet, an organization dedicated to cultivating the next generation of composers and audiences for classical and composed music.

Graham built his professional career through solo compositions, leading a band and in 1999, he began a career composing for film with a silent score for Battleship Potemkin, commissioned by the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

He was good at it. Since then he has scored Hollywood films and television shows including BEFORE MIDNIGHT, SCANNER DARKLY, BERNIE, WHERE’D YOU GO BERNADETTE, HITMAN, PBS’S POV, FOR MARFA, and THE DIPLOMAT.

Graham has been paying it forward for a decade. Since 2014 he has led the acclaimed and highly-successful Young Composers workshop with students from across the globe.

His non-profit composing mentorship work and his career of composing for the screen, however, have never converged... until now.
